SysML for Modeling Infrastucture Architectures
November 4th, 2007 by Lou
In my recent post Virtualization and Infrastructure Modeling I neglected to mention SysML. SysML is a set of specifications for extending the UML for systems engineering disciplines, described by the OMG as “… a general-purpose graphical modeling language for specifying, analyzing, designing, and verifying complex systems that may include hardware, software, information, personnel, procedures, and facilities.”
Version 1.0 of the specification was released in September, and my UML tool of choice has a plugin for editing SysML models. I think it’s time to take it for a spin.
Although I’ve been unable to find any examples that apply to the specific discipline of infrastructure architecture, I have found a fairly substantial tutorial on the OMG site that hopefully will get me far enough along to make sense of the notation. Also, there are a ton of other links on the OMG site that may have some help.
